The GAA ( Gaelic Athletic Association or Cumann Lúthchleas Gael in Irish ) is the governing body of the National Sports of Ireland. The main sports are Hurling, Gaelic Football & Camogie.
Hurling is reported to be the Fastest field sport in the world and one of the oldest field games in Europe and has references in Irish history as far back as 2000 years ago. The GAA was formed back in 1884 in Thurles, Ireland and in 1885 the general rules for Hurling and Football were drawn up and published.
Hurling is played with a hitting stick called a Hurley which is made of Ash wood and is about 32 - 36 inch long with a curved expanding base which is the striking area ( See Pic ) and a small ball called a Sliothar ( See Pic) and is played on a grass pitch 137m long and 82m wide. Two teams with 15 players each and is played in 2 half's of 35 mins. The goal posts are very similar to Rugby posts in the shape of a "H" but in Hurling there is also a Goalkeeper. If a player hits the Sliothar over the cross bar it counts as 1 point. If the succeeds in getting it below the crossbar and passed the goalkeeper that they get 3 points (Goal).

Gaelic Football.
It has been described as a mixture of Soccer and Rugby but of course was around a lot longer before both of these... Played with a round ball a bit smaller that a soccer ball and on a grass pitch the same size as the Hurling and the goal posts are the same. The main difference with Gaelic Football is that the players can pick up the ball (Using their foot) and travel for 4 steps with the ball in their hand and then they must bounce it or tap it on their foot and back to the hand. Scoring is also the same as in Hurling, 1 point for over the bar and 3 points for in the goal.
